Omakase Detox: The Journey Back to Yourself

With Dr. Mara Kevan at Prana Maya Island Resort

What if you don’t need to do more?
What if you simply need to stop?

Have you been feeling unlike yourself lately?

Perhaps you’ve noticed changes in your energy, weight, digestion, sleep, focus, mood, or ability to recover. Maybe you’re doing everything you know to do—eating well, exercising, taking supplements, tracking your health—and yet something still feels off.

You may not need another protocol.

You may need space.

The Omakase Detox at Prana Maya Island Resort was created for precisely that moment: when the body, mind, and spirit are asking for something deeper than another productivity strategy, another supplement, or another attempt to optimize.

It is an invitation to step away from the noise of modern life and enter an environment intentionally designed for restoration, reflection, nourishment, and reconnection.

When You No Longer Feel Like Yourself

Modern life asks us to remain switched on.

We work.
We perform.
We respond.
We produce.
We optimize.
We keep going.

And because we are capable, we often don’t recognize how depleted we’ve become until our bodies begin speaking more loudly.

You may recognize some of these experiences:

  • Changes in weight or difficulty maintaining a comfortable weight
  • Brain fog or difficulty concentrating
  • Fatigue despite adequate sleep
  • Feeling emotionally overwhelmed or unusually sensitive
  • Slower recovery from exercise
  • Persistent muscle tension or soreness
  • Digestive discomfort or bloating
  • Persistent cravings
  • Changes in menstrual patterns
  • Feeling withdrawn or disconnected
  • Difficulty finding motivation for things that once energized you
  • Feeling overwhelmed despite doing many of the “right” things
  • Wellness practices that no longer seem to be creating the same sense of wellbeing

These experiences can have many causes and deserve individualized attention.

But sometimes the answer isn’t another test.

Sometimes the answer is creating enough quiet to hear what your body has been trying to tell you.

My Personal Journey

On Paper, I Was Thriving

Inside, I was quietly falling apart.

Only months ago, I found myself profoundly exhausted. My concentration had changed. My work no longer felt effortless. Exercise, which had always been a source of strength, was leaving me depleted rather than energized.

My sleep wasn’t restorative.

My body was changing.

And I didn’t feel like myself.

Like many high-achieving women, my first instinct was to investigate—to understand, measure, optimize, and fix.

I completed extensive functional medicine testing, including neurotransmitter analysis, adrenal assessment, hormone panels, stool analysis, mineral testing, and comprehensive bloodwork.

The information was valuable.

But eventually I realized something profound:

The greatest problem wasn’t hiding in my laboratory results.
It was hiding in my life.

Getting Off the Stress Ferris Wheel

For years, I had measured my worth by what I could accomplish.

I kept saying yes.

I carried more responsibility.

I pushed harder.

And all the while, I was teaching others about wellness while quietly abandoning many of the principles I believed in myself.

Eventually, I reached a point where I couldn’t push any further.

So I stopped.

I stepped away from my businesses and daily responsibilities and disappeared into the quiet mountains of Vermont.

I gave myself permission to become unavailable to the world for a while.

And for the first time in years, I truly listened.

The 21-Day Reset

Under guidance, I committed to a deeply intentional 21-day period that included:

  • 14 days of water fasting
  • 7 days of carefully structured re-feeding
  • A one-month nutritional restoration plan
  • Daily rest and reflection
  • Nervous system-focused practices rooted in the peace and quiet of nature
  • Two Psych-K therapy sessions weekly
  • Mindfulness and spiritual practice with phototonic water blessings and meditation

What happened was far greater than I expected.

As the external noise became quieter, I became aware of how much internal noise I had been carrying.

My mind became clearer.

I experienced a profound sense of stillness.

I began to reconnect with my body.

And, perhaps most importantly, I began to reconnect with myself.

The Little Girl and the Woman

The experience became one of the most profound spiritual journeys of my life.

I met the little girl inside me who had spent decades believing she needed to earn love through achievement.

And I met the woman I had become.

For the first time, they weren’t competing.

They weren’t fighting.

They became one.

I began to understand that wellbeing isn’t simply about the absence of symptoms or the optimization of biomarkers.

It is about the relationship we have with ourselves.

With our bodies.

With our lives.

With the people we love.

With something greater than ourselves.

That realization changed the way I understand healing.

The Ancient Wisdom of Stillness

Across cultures and throughout human history, intentional fasting, retreat, solitude, prayer, and periods of abstinence have been used as pathways toward reflection and spiritual renewal.

For many traditions, stepping away from ordinary life creates an opportunity to hear something that can be difficult to hear in the midst of constant stimulation:

your own inner knowing.

My experience reinforced something I had witnessed throughout my years in medicine:

The human body is extraordinarily adaptive and possesses remarkable capacity for restoration.

But restoration requires an environment that allows it.

Sometimes that environment isn’t found by adding more.

Sometimes it is created by removing what is unnecessary.

Why Omakase Exists

The word omakase comes from the Japanese expression meaning to entrust oneself to the chef.

For us, it represents something deeper.

It is the decision to step out of the role of constantly managing everything.

To be cared for.

To be guided.

To surrender the need to know exactly what comes next.

The Omakase Detox is a highly curated, individualized experience at Prana Maya Island Resort designed to create space for physical restoration, nourishment, nervous system regulation, reflection, and reconnection.

This is not about becoming someone new.

It is about remembering who you are beneath everything you’ve been carrying.

The Prana Maya Experience

There is a particular kind of healing that can happen when you remove yourself from the machinery of everyday life.

At Prana Maya, the ocean becomes part of your rhythm.

The jungle becomes part of your morning.

Your feet meet the earth.

Meals are prepared from the abundance of Belize.

The pace becomes slower.

The mind begins to quiet.

And you are given something that modern life rarely offers:

the freedom to simply be.

Every element of the Omakase experience is thoughtfully curated to support your journey—from the food on your plate to the rhythm of your day, from restorative therapies to quiet moments alone.

Nothing is about perfection.

Nothing is about performance.

Nothing is about becoming a better machine.

It is about becoming more fully human.

Your Invitation

Imagine waking without immediately reaching for your phone.

Feeling the morning air on your skin.

Walking barefoot toward the sea.

Eating food that is fresh, vibrant, and prepared with intention.

Moving your body because it feels good—not because you have to.

Sleeping deeply.

Laughing again.

Thinking clearly.

Feeling connected.

Remembering what you love.

Remembering who you are.

I cannot promise that your journey will look like mine.

Nor should it.

Your body has its own wisdom. Your story is your own. Your transformation will be uniquely yours.

What I can promise is that you will be held in a beautiful environment, thoughtfully supported, and given the space to listen.

Because perhaps the goal isn’t to optimize your life.

Perhaps it is to feel alive inside it again.
